The Hamsa, Hand of Fatima, Hand of Miriam

PHOTO OF HAMSAFive outstretched fingers
protector
of all those
at the crossroads
piles
of glass shards
vomited
between jobs
marriages
hurricanes
translucent
shimmery drift of sunlight
the crawl of ivy
altaring
the side of a building
stalks of dried anise
hold onto each other
as cars creep past
the tidal neck
between two bridges
I clutch the hand that’s offered–
let me find my family
let me find my way home.
