Promissory Note from Golem

To tell the truth,
bleeding has never gone over
big in my family; golems are
of a more solitary silicone nature,
but then there’s the human spigot
running full blast on red,
stretchers balsamic with the dead,
there’s a lot of crying.

I feel badly, only not much I can do about it,
one of me and all of them lined up
on either side of the freeway,
but as long as there’s that last citizen
who can place a call, not to worry—
I’ll be answering.
