dumpsters, backpacks, garbage cans
in the officiating moment

alongside a sidewalk
of cement slabs

cellphones dangled people
running in traffic

faster than a subway
pressure cooker

ticking off
minestrone minutes

diverted brownstones
along Second Avenue

empanadas pupusas
Turkish coffee demitasse

check cashing

police headlights
flash a man, down

five counts
against him,

black tennis shoes
propping up toes,

arm bloody, head wobbly,
_____ terror.
