Shut Down

faceDueling election signs on front lawns.
On the right, a candidate
condemns the federal government,
another appears on TV and says nothing .
She grabs the end of a silver kite string
and eats the spaghetti o’s of her anger.
Caterpillars hang inside pecan trees.
Shrivels of marigold petals
sift to the ground.
