Why the Telephone Pole is not a Shrimp

There was a telephone pole two inches tall. One night in New York City on January 3, 1948 at three o’clock in the morning, the pole said, “I wish I were two fee higher.” The pole did not know it, but just as he spoke, there was a falling star.

About one hour later, a fairy came to his corner and said, “Mr. Telephone Pole. I can make you taller.”

The telephone pole said, “Oh, please do.”

The fairy said. “Get me a falling star from the sky.” I’m not sure why the fairy had a thing for falling stars, but the telephone pole set off to work right away. He put a box on top of another box and climbed into space. Then he reached up and pulled down a star from the sky. Hey.  It was falling anyway.

When he gave the star to the fairy, she put it on her wand and tapped the shorty telephone pole. He grew two feet.

Once he grew two feet, he saw that two feet tall wasn’t that tall. The fairy vanished into daylight and left her wand behind. This just in: she put the falling star on a new wand that she planned to carry in the annual fairy telephone pole parade down Fifth Avenue.

Her old wand was just over six inches long. The telephone pole picked up the wand in his mouth and tapped his arm three times. He grew 60 feet tall, and that’s why the telephone pole is not a shrimp.
